The directly attached storage benchmark pretty much matches my wd blues speed considering I got them for free and am waiting to upgrade to 2TB RE's. I think I probably would have gotten higher speeds if I did, the switch is definitely they limiting factor here though. I didn't test directly between the pfSense sever and my laptop on that subnet. I'm sure if I wasn't using one of the uplink ports as a switchport I wouldn't be bumping against max transmission rate but the WS-2950-24 was designed to switch 24 10/100 at near line rate not fully saturating both gigabit up-links. Using the extra gigabit port on my management Cisco switch resulted in 100% switch utilization but an ok benchmark for GbE, definitely not line rate though.
